Best and Worst of the Ryder Cup

Top shot: It's hard to differentiate between the two holes-in-one from Paul Casey and Scott Verplank

Top shot: It's hard to differentiate between the two holes-in-one from Paul Casey and Scott Verplank. The Englishman probably shades the issue because his four-iron to the 213-yard 14th was the perfect way to embellish a five and four victory.

Best putt

It has to be Darren Clarke's "raker" on the par-three 12th during his singles victory over Zach Johnson on the Sunday. He elected to use the putter from about four feet off the green and managed to hole a putt that was close to 120 feet in length.

Witty remark

A member of the gallery shouted 'get in the hole' after Tiger Woods hit his chip shot to the 16th on the Saturday afternoon, playing against Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley. It prompted a split-second riposte from close by: 'get in the Liffey'.

Biggest flop

Normally associated with another kind of flop, his glorious wedge play, this was a difficult week for Phil Mickelson. America's stellar names were expected to lead, but Mickelson, in particular, struggled.

Strangest moment

It has to be Tiger Woods' caddie Steve Williams stumbling while trying to clean a nine-iron and dropping the club and towel into the lake beside the seventh green.

He got the towel back immediately but a diver had to return the second item. Brings a whole new meaning to "rescue club".

Unsung hero

K Club superintendent Gerry Byrne, take a bow. He - along with his staff and volunteers - did a remarkable job in presenting a golf course that didn't succumb to the inclement weather.
