AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Cork City 3 Dundalk 2:VINNY SULLIVAN'S third goal in two games gave Cork City a second league win in a row as they beat Dundalk in front of 2,815 at Turner's Cross last night.

In heavy rain, it was a night of high drama – and at times high farce – as the opening 14 minutes produced four goals, and while the ratio dropped after that, the excitement rarely dipped.

The home side, unchanged from the win over Shelbourne, took the lead inside three minutes as Davin O’Neill met a Gearóid Morrissey corner on the volley to send the ball to the net via the cross bar.

Dundalk almost equalised immediately, Shane O’Neill’s shot blocked by Dan Murray for a corner, but in the eighth minute they were level, as Cork goalkeeper Mark McNulty allowed a low long-range Michael Rafter shot to slip from his grasp, the ball bouncing off the post and in.

On 12 minutes, the visitors were in front as a mix-up between Morrissey and Murray saw the ball fall to Gary Shanahan, who fired past McNulty, but O’Neill’s second, from a lovely Kalen Spillane pass, tied matters at 2-2.

So heavy was the rain, both teams, and the officials, changed kits at half-time – Cork from green to red and Dundalk from white to yellow – and less than five minutes was all it took for Sullivan to add to the goals, producing a glancing header from Morrissey’s cross.

While Shanahan then went close for Dundalk, Cork finished strongly to safely take the points.
