My Dublin Business School experience

Students talk about their time studying in Dublin Business School

Aideen Sutton studied for a Certificate in Digital Marketing

Prior to undertaking the Certificate in Digital Marketing, I had no marketing experience and my digital knowledge was very limited. Because of this inexperience, coupled with not having studied in many years, undertaking the course felt daunting, but I need not have worried. While the course modules were quite intensive, there was great support from all the lecturers in assisting us with our studies and course work.

I thoroughly enjoyed every element of the course, from the lectures to the assignments, group work and the camaraderie with lecturers and my fellow classmates. The lecturers, all experts in their fields, were excellent. The standard of tuition was very high and they all made themselves available to answer queries and help resolve problems. There was also great support from the DBS staff, which was very comforting and reassuring, especially for someone like me who had not been in college in two decades! It was great to know that you were not on your own and you only had to ask a member of staff whenever you had any problem.

There are many aspects of DBS which I can highly recommend, from its city centre location to the supports and high standard of teaching. One of the aspects which I felt set DBS ahead of other colleges offering digital marketing courses was the practical aspect to the course.

Chiara Salvo

Chiara Salvo studied for a Higher Diploma in Science in Computing (Web and Cloud Technologies)

I’ve just completed the Higher Diploma in Science in Computing in Web and Cloud Technologies. This programme has been greatly beneficial to my professional development and to my career.  The taught part of the course provided me with the knowledge of IT fundamentals that is required to start a career in this industry. Whereas working on the final project and carrying out the work placement helped me gain practical experience in managing business-related projects and scenarios.

This was crucial to changing my career path and to securing a job in the IT industry.  The course was also an opportunity for self-development, since I had to push myself out of my comfort zone and immerse myself in an IT syllabus that would normally require years of studies, and dealing daily with professionals, both in the academic and placement contexts, was good practice for engaging with technical teams in the work environment.

Completing this ICT Skills Conversion Programme has been as challenging as it has been rewarding. Considering that I come from a completely different background in law, undertaking this course involved a great dose of commitment and flexibility. However, managing to run my first applications motivated me to work even harder. I especially enjoyed the second part of the course as it was focused on my chosen area of specialisation.

What I enjoyed most about studying in DBS was the positive and friendly learning environment. Lecturers were able to combine a high quality of teaching with a positive and helpful attitude at all stages during the programme. The programme comprised a well balanced mix of in-class activities, laboratories and projects that helped me get up and running in this industry, and the facilitation of professional certifications added value on top of this.

David Dignam

David Dignam studied for a Higher Diploma in Science in Computing Software Development

The course benefited me greatly, I learned a lot about a wide range of core ICT subjects from programming and web development to system administration, which ultimately lead to being employed full time by my work placement employer.

I enjoyed the course a lot, particularly the projects where we had some freedom to decide the subject of the project, like the mobile app project and the final project. This allowed me to apply the skills I was learning to something I wanted to do, rather than just sticking to a rigid assignment.

I think the best thing about studying at DBS was the relatively small class sizes and the openness and availability of the lecturers, which made for a relaxed and comfortable learning experience. I felt very engaged in the lessons due to this, and any questions I had were quickly answered.
