Sir, – US president Donald Trump has yet again been attacked by liberals for the speech he gave recently at the UN. Some people have accused him of making an outrageous speech by threatening North Korea.

This type of analysis is intellectually bankrupt because the truth is Mr Trump didn’t create the situation we now find ourselves in with North Korea; it was created by successive policies by Mr Trump’s predecessors. From the Clinton presidency to those of Bush and Obama, North Korea has been allowed to build and develop its nuclear arsenal. North Korea has been raining missiles over Japan over the last two months while conducting nuclear bomb tests in order to create an intercontinental ballistic missile and capable of carrying a nuclear warhead reaching the US mainland. The Japanese have had enough of this, as have the South Koreans, but for western liberals, the threat is Mr Trump.
North Korea is a very real threat not only to its neighbours, but also to the US. Mr Trump delivered a very powerful speech at the UN stating that as leader of the US it is his job to protect the people of his country first and foremost, something which any rational person would expect from their own leader. – Yours, etc,
