Sir, - So, according to Tony McClafferty of National Toll Roads (January 10th), the new euro charge on the West-Link Bridge was never intended to be an exact conversion of the old toll, but has actually been increased to finance the building of the second West-Link Bridge.
Perhaps, then, Mr McClafferty would be good enough to answer a few queries:-
1. Since when has it been accepted practice to raise a toll on one bridge, to pay for another one?
2. As motorists are already now effectively paying their tolls for the second "bridge in the sky", does this mean that, when completed, the new bridge will be toll-free, all expenses incurred having been met by motorists by the time of completion?
3. When can I, as a regular user of West-Link and therefore as a contributor of capital to the proposed new crossing, expect to receive my first shareholder's dividend? - Yours, etc.,
