Time for postal vote to be extended

Sir, – The Government stated it would announce the date for the upcoming referendum as soon as possible so people could arrange to be in the country. It then gave less than two months’ notice.

In this age of mobility many have to plan travel, for work or other reasons, more than two months’ ahead and are unable to change their arrangements. Eligibility for postal voting is very limited at present and needs to be expanded to include those with evidence of booked travel arrangements made prior to the official announcement of the voting date. Otherwise a significant number of citizens will be denied their vote. – Yours, etc,

EDWARD DOYLE,

Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
