Madam, - Global warming and climate change aside, the citizens of Dublin can look forward to increased incidents of severe flooding in the times ahead if the track record of the local authority is anything to go by.

The combined surface and foul drainage system which dates from Victorian times is under severe pressure given all the development that Dublin has seen since those times, and the lack of maintenance of this system can only exacerbate an already critical situation.

On some roads, the majority of gullies if not all, are not functioning. From Donnybrook to Rathmines, or from Rathgar to Glasnevin and Clontarf, citywide the scenario is repeated with alarming regularity. - Yours, etc,
