Sir, - Forgive us for missing the point, but after umpteen scientific investigations, myriad official reports and hundreds of thousands of pounds spent in monitoring fish farms for lice, all that is wrong with the sea trout can be put down to the odd drought and a bit of fluctuation - at least, according to your correspondent Donal O'Shea (October 14th). Serves us right for jumping to conclusions after all. only seven years have elapsed since the sea trout collapse was first recognised.

Given such attitudes, is there any hope that anything other than punitive action will solve the sea trout problem? We are beginning to think not! - Yours, etc.,
