The rubble club

Sir, – Further to “The rubble club: An Irish architect watches his life’s work disappear” (Frank McDonald, March 23rd), I’ve often thought a good way to judge a building is to ask, “What if all the buildings looked like this? Would the city be a nice place to live?”

Using that test, I am afraid every single one of the buildings mentioned in the article fails miserably. This is a harsh comment to make, but unfortunately the majority of so-called commercial architecture from the 1960s to 1980s was just awful. The demolition of such buildings is welcome. – Yours, etc,

ALAN ROSSITER,
