Sir, – I refer to Denis Eustace’s letter (October 29th), lamenting the fact that while 2012 was the centenary of the death of Bram Stoker, his brother Sir William Thornley Stoker, a well-known Dublin surgeon, died the same year and the latter had not been commemorated this year. The History of Medicine Section of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland recently hosted a lecture by Douglas Appleyard, a distant relative of the Stokers, entitled Bram Stoker’s Medical Family: Introducing Twelve Medical Stokers. The achievements of Sir William were particularly highlighted in this talk as was the possible impact that such a strong medical background may have had on Bram Stoker’s literary works. – Yours, etc,

Honorary Secretary,
