Surveying stoats

Sir, – The notion of introducing a "stoat survey" as an impediment to the development of the Stillorgan reservoir must fall into the realm of ludicrous ("Irish Water told to carry out 'stoat survey' in south Dublin", January 26th). If a bicycle were found in the reservoir, would there be a call for a survey of "Third Policemen" who may be lurking in the shrubbery around the reservoir? The development of parkland for the enjoyment of all, alongside the conservation of adequate water capacity in Stillorgan, should meet the needs of all, including the odd stoat which might want to ramble through the area. – Yours, etc,

PATRICK JUDGE,

Dún Laoghaire,

Co Dublin.
