Sir, – Some atheists call for the removal of chaplains from colleges due to cost, so why do they stop short of asking for the removal of unprofitable chaplaincy services in our costly hospitals and hospices?
Then what emblem of comfort and imagination will atheists show to a gravely ill person whose existence is not based on scientific interpretation or statistics but on the immaterial, unmeasurable emotional experience of their lives? A DNA strand and a shovel? – Yours, etc,
EUGENE TANNAM,
Firhouse, Dublin 24.
