Irish talent nominated for 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards

Irish creative scoops 15 nominations, with Wednesday and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms leading way

The nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday, July 7th, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, with Irish talent recognised across nine categories.

Netflix’s Wednesday, filmed in Ardmore Studios in Co Wicklow, secured multiple nominations. Lynn Johnston, Elaine Hopkins, Helen Bailey, and Dorothy Campbell are nominated for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic).

Sevlene Roddy and Peter Burke are recognised in outstanding contemporary hairstyling, while supervising art director Shane McEnroe earned a nomination for outstanding production design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (one hour or more).

Irish talent received another nomination in the comedy categories, with Irish director Dearbhla Walsh receiving a nomination as an executive producer on Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles. The show, starring Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer, received a nomination for outstanding comedy series alongside Hacks, The Bear and Only Murders in the Building.

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, also had a surprising and impressive showing for its first season filmed in Co Down and Co Antrim.

Costume designer Lorna Ó Ríordáin received a nomination for outstanding fantasy/sci-fi costumes, while Cat Coogan was nominated for outstanding period or fantasy hairstyling.

The Irish production received nominations for production designer Tom McCullagh, too, alongside supervising art director John Merry and set decorator Stephanie Rea, for outstanding production design for a Narrative Program (half-hour).

The show starring Peter Claffey from Co Galway also received a nomination for best drama series alongside The Pitt, The Diplomat and The Gilded Age.

Ed Bruce received a nomination in outstanding special visual effects in a season or a movie for his work as VFX supervisor on Apple TV’s Foundation. The majority of the sci-fi drama’s production was carried out in Troy Studios, Co Limerick, with scenes also filmed inside Trinity College Dublin’s Long Room.

Cinematographer Darran Tiernan, received a nomination for outstanding cinematography for a series (one hour) for Spider-Noir, Sony and Prime Video’s series based on the Marvel comic books.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 14th, with the Creative Arts Emmy Awards being held on September 5th and 6th at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
