Sir, - Who gives Kevin Myers the right to pen such a scurrilous article about our driving (An Irishman's Diary, November 6th)? Who gives him the right to castigate us for barrelling along roads that should be rolled up and dumped? Who gives him the right to attack us for ignoring silly speed limits? Who gave him the right to reprimand us for speeding when our ability to drive was affected by that extra glass?
Who gave him the right?
Perhaps the devastated mothers and fathers of recent victims. Perhaps our ostrich-like indifference to the problem as long as our own lives have not yet been demolished by the late-night knock on the door. Perhaps the shattered lives of those who killed while they speeded pointlessly to pointless places. Perhaps the voices of the silenced.
The article should have been emblazoned across the front page. - Yours, etc.,
Philip Murphy,
Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny.
