Madam, - Once again Iarnród Éireann treats the fare-paying public with complete contempt. Who are these people and has nobody any control over them?
I purchase an annual train ticket. Earlier this year IÉ increased the cost of this ticket by 19.5 per cent. In exchange I have received a cut in service (no weekend trains between Bray and Pearse Street). Now, to add insult to injury they have withdrawn service from December 27th to January 4th.
No apology to the long-serving customer; no freeze in fares to compensate for the reduced service; and worst of all, none of the poor, unfortunate passengers can follow the Tánaiste's advice and shop around! - Yours etc.,
PETER BUCHANAN, Annamoe, Co Wicklow.
Madam, - Ms Cliona Ní Fhatharta, spokeswoman for Iarnród Éireann, says of the Christmas and New Year DART closure, "There's no good time to do this" (The Irish Times, November 6th). The DART does not operate between midnight and 6 a.m. daily. If there must be a closure, that would be a "good time" for those of us who rely on the DART. - Yours, etc.,
ROSS WHITAKER, Corbawn Grove, Shankill, Co Dublin.
