Madam, - Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern has asked all political parties not to make sectarian statements. He might make a start by looking at the antics of the public service broadcaster, RTÉ.

Twice every day RTÉ bongs out the Angelus bell. The Angelus is a prayer of the Roman Catholic Church. It gives Mary a special place as the mother of God and celebrates the immaculate conception. Most other Christian religions do not accept these beliefs, not to mind the Muslims and Chinese living in our midst.

No other public service broadcaster in Europe does this, not even in very Roman Catholic Poland. The last country to do this in Europe was Franco's fascist Spain.

So Minister, why not start looking in your own back yard and ask RTÉ to stop making sectarian statements? - Yours, etc,
