Sir, - Following representations by the Green Party and concerned local residents, Dublin Corporation has begun to clean the beach of algae. Your readers may be interested to know that this unsightly and smelly algae could be a thing of the past once the new treatment plant is in place in Ringsend.
When the Dublin Bay Water Quality Management Plan came before the City Council, a Green Party amendment to include tertiary treatment of sewage was unanimously agreed. The removal of nitrogen will reduce the nutrients in the water which give rise to the growth of algae, and will help to restore the amenity value of the Bay. - Yours, etc,
Stella Gardens, Irishtown,
