Madam, – Jim Cantwell (December 23rd) decries Archbishop Martin for his terse statement on the resignation of Bishop Murray which didn’t refer to the good bishop’s achievements. However, there is no symmetry between the bishop’s virtues and the harm and destruction of young lives he caused by neglecting his duty of care to the most vulnerable children of the people of Dublin.

Shakespeare’s lines from Julius Caesar is apt in Bishop Murray’s case: “The evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred in their bones”.
