Madam, – I read your very informative comments on the confrontation that has arisen over the 2002 interview with Senator Norris (Editorial, June 1st). But did you have to emphasise that being gay should not be a barrier to presidential ambition? Surely we have moved along from that position. It is the sexual morality aspect of the 2002 interview that we must be concerned about.

For many people, it may be Senator Norris’s flamboyance and saccharine tones as well as the “everyone was having a wonderful time” attitude that make him an unsuitable candidate when the nation is up to its neck in debt and bailouts. – Yours, etc,

JOHN F FALLON,
