RTE defends its obligation under the Broadcasting Authority Act "that it should not accept any advertisement directed towards any religious or political end". Indeed.

Sir, - Hasn't Ireland become a grand little country entirely when allegedly "pagan" TV channels and Channel 4 are carrying the "Power to Change" advertisements, while our own RTE has turned them down?

And why? Apparently because these broadcasts, agreed by the four major Churches, are wickedly encouraging a lifestyle change, by promoting a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in our daily lives.

But who is this Jesus guy anyway? Some weirdo pop-star we have never heard of? Of what relevance is he to people saturated with self-indulgence and materialism? Does he dare to promote clean Christian living?

Yet it religiously and frequently gives liberal airtime to party political broadcasts, and does not draw the line at showing profane, immoral, amoral and near-pornographic films, harmful to public morality.
