Sir, Fr. O'Hanlon's letter (April 8th) shows the extent of the chasm between the Vatican and the reality of the modern world. How cosy it must feel to sit in a dusty little room pontificating on the attire of visiting heads of state. Would the good Fr. O'Hanlon not be better employed ruminating on the recent and more relevant sins of the church and its attitudes towards its most faithful members, namely women and children?
Should we take his appalling letter seriously and treat it as an insight, a slipping of the veil, so to speak? - Yours, etc.,
