Sir, - There has been a certain amount of negative press recently concerning Irish people's lack of compassion towards asylum seekers. It was therefore refreshing to see RTE's Nationwide program on March 12th. It featured the people of Clonakilty in Co Cork welcoming a group of 80 asylum seekers into their lives through common interests of music and sport.
It demonstrated the warm-hearted nature of an Irish community towards our international neighbours. This positive action is surely an inspiration for all of us to extend a hand of friendship and support to our visitors. Well done, Clonakilty. - Yours, etc.,
