Sir, -In the re-ignited controversy over the ordination of women to the Catholic priesthood, Elizabeth Roddy writes of wondering, speculating and thinking about various aspects of this contentious issue (July 4th).
I too have done a share of wondering about the question. In particular, I wonder why, if the Holy Spirit is genuinely calling some women to serve in the ordained ministry, the same Holy Spirit doesn't appear to grant the same insight to his vicar on earth, the successor of Peter.
After all, did not God the Son reassure Peter and the other apostles that he would be with his beloved Church, guiding it all the days, yes, to the end of time? -Yours, etc.,
Mrs. D. Bourke, LeeRoad, Cork.
