Madam, – Last June, I attended an amazing benefit rock concert in Italy to raise funds to help rebuild homes in the Abruzzo region where many families and businesses had been devastated by an earthquake. The concert was held in the Olympic Soccer Stadium in Rome.

For almost six hours, numerous renowned Italian pop artists performed to an audience of several thousand people. I cannot describe the level of national passion displayed by the performers and audience that evening but it was clear that “people goodwill power” came out in full force to help raise funds for their fellow citizens.

I have not been personally affected by the recent flooding in Ireland, but I am calling on our pop artists and philanthropists to hold a benefit concert to help raise much-needed funds to help repair the damage caused to so many homes and businesses by the recent flooding.

I wonder if people such as Harry Crosby, JP McManus, Bono/U2, Christy Moore, Sinead O’Connor, Westlife, Enya, could help me with this? The 02 or Croke Park would make a great venue. I have the dream and inspiration but not the musical skills or funds to pull this off.
