New cross-Border travel rules

Sir, – Just when you think Brexit couldn’t get any more farcical, the Tory government comes up with new “gifts”. Your news item “UK to require visa waiver to cross Border” (December 8th) means my neighbour and Donegal resident of 20 years will require an electronic visa waiver to go shopping at Asda in Strabane as she is a German citizen.

When will the British electorate wake up to the fact they are led by people who seem to have no knowledge of the mechanics of daily life?

Sir, – What an amazing front page on yesterday’s Irish Times. First there is the UK government introducing a visa waiver for non-EU/EEA visitors entering Northern Ireland from the Republic; then lower down a report that the Taoiseach has announced plans during the Shared Island Forum for greenways linking Sligo/Enniskillen, Donegal/ Derry and Louth/Down.

Clearly these people that are in charge of things don’t talk to each other? – Yours, etc,
