Sir, – A recent correspondent (January 7th) reminisced on the halcyon days of the 07 registration numbers. Back in 2007, it was personal lease plans, before that it was hire purchase (HP), and now we have personal contract plans (PCPs) to help us towards our dream of new car ownership. It reminds me of the modern aphorism: “People spending money they don’t have, on things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t know”.
