Sir, - I feel that T. O'Connor is wrong in his criticisms of the proposed millennium service (October 21st). The celebration will reach few people if it is confined to a building that cannot host TV cameras.
Christians are to preach the gospel in season and out of season, according to St Paul. By using a location where TV can cover the event they are not being tyrannised by TV; rather they are using 20th-century technology as a tool of evangelism, and rightly so.
The more people who are reminded of what the millennium is all about the better. It is possible to worship in all sorts of ways without sticking to ancient and modern liturgies that on occasions like the one proposed would be like straitjackets. - Yours, etc.,
Canon Brian Lougheed, St Mary's Rectory, Ballycasheen, Killarney, Co Kerry.
