Meaningful and meaningless votes

Sir, – Further to the correspondence (June 14th) on the idea of meaningless and meaningful votes, meaningless votes are a fundamental part of life here in the North.

What else is a minority vote in a safe “first past the post” DUP or Sinn Féin seat, or a vote for an abstentionist Sinn Féin MP? Not content with disenfranchising voters in the House of Commons, the DUP and Sinn Féin have sought to disenfranchise the entire electorate by absenting themselves from the Northern Ireland Assembly. – Yours, etc,

JOHN McANDREW,

Moira,

Co Down.
