Sir, - Remembrance Day events in Britain are almost invariably marked by military parades, guns fired in salute, and other trappings of the type of militaristic nationalism that leads to wars in the first place. Many people to whom these displays are repugnant therefore choose to wear a white poppy, sold by the Peace Pledge Union.
The white poppy is a symbol of remembrance of all victims of war - soldiers, civilians and indeed those who starve while their leaders spend money on armaments. Perhaps such a symbol should be adopted in Ireland. - Is mise, Danny Thompson,
