Sir, – As a teacher of Leaving Certificate English, each year much attention is focused, both by students and teachers, on which poets will come up on the examination paper.
With the news of the involvement and nomination by the Chinese government of an adviser for the new Leaving Certificate subject of Mandarin (News, August 11th), is it now safe to say that questions on the 1989 Tiananmen massacre and the status of Tibet, Taiwan and Hong Kong will not be appearing on this exam both for the first year and indefinitely? – Yours, etc,
