'LIVING DEAD DOLLS'

REBECCA MOYNIHAN,

REBECCA MOYNIHAN,

Madam, - Labour Youth rejects the recent referral of complaints about 'Living Dead Dolls' to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

While acknowledging that 'Living Dead Dolls' toys may be considered to be in bad taste by many people, it is the place of the parent, and not the State, to decide whether individual children should own these products.

The products are clearly aimed towards a more mature audience, and Labour Youth would call upon retailers to sell the dolls as such, and avoid marketing them to younger customers.

These dolls should be considered in the context of the many violent toys which we consider to be "acceptable". Replica "toy" assault rifles and handguns of the type used to murder thousands in Northern Ireland, and models of the planes which are daily landing at Shannon airport on their way to wage war in the Persian Gulf, are freely available to all. If we are to draw a line on this issue, where should it be placed? - Yours, etc.
