Four and a half million pounds is to be spent building the Jeannie Johnston with mostly foreign skills, because we don't have the personnel; with, no doubt, foreign materials because we don't have them either. When it is finished it will sail off into the sunset to be seen, Lord knows when.

If and when she returns, she will be laid up to catch a few fee paying tourists. All this to commemorate the Famine.

Would it not be far better to put the money towards the 50 metre pool we have heard so much talk about? This should be called the Jeannie Johnston Pool in remembrance of all those who made that perilous journey, and then ask Michelle Smith to open it. - Yours, etc.,
