GAA and the national anthem

Sir, – A group of more than 20 of us watched in dejection in our local public house the GAA’s decision to play a recording of the national anthem in preference to a live performance on Sunday’s televised live All-Ireland quarter-finals in Thurles.

It was an occasion that merited more.

Surely an aspiring local performer should have been given a national window to perform the anthem, most probably at no cost to the GAA?
