Sir, - Phil MacGiolla Bhain (November 22nd) connects "feminist ideas" with male suicide. I agree that we need to look at the root causes of male suicide in this country and find support mechanisms to help young men.
However, to say that the problem lies in the fact that men are now helpless victims of women in this "feminist state" is ridiculous and extreme. It also implies that women now have equality in Ireland. Neither is so. I do not call myself a feminist (who would dare nowadays?) but I do believe in furthering our development and roles and I strongly object to his statements implying that my ideas and beliefs result in men taking their own lives. - Yours, etc.,
