Sir, – Well done to Fintan O'Toole for highlighting the plight of our young people without educational qualifications ("What is at the root of inequality?", Opinion & Analysis, September 22nd).
It is shameful that the education initiative introduced to provide an alternative education route for our young people (Leaving Certificate Applied) has suffered from cutbacks, a serious lack of public promotion and reduced employment opportunities, particularly in the area of apprenticeships and follow-on opportunities. – Yours, etc,
