Madam, – While it is great that Irish Rail is on time to have the bridge at the Broadmeadow Estuary functioning by the end of November (Home News, September 10th), we as commuters have been left in the lurch to some extent. If we want to travel to or from areas north or south of Donabate outside of the core hours of 7am-6pm we are left to fend for ourselves.

Is it fair that Irish Rail is not providing a service that at least matches the one provided when the line was functioning correctly? Instead Irish Rail has reneged on all transport outside of these core hours and has told us that it will not be providing any services. Therefore, the commuters are left with two-hour, if not longer, journeys in and out of Dublin if we work what I would now consider to be normal hours.

When people are working hard to keep their jobs, does Irish Rail feel this is fair? Give us an off-peak equivalent to the train service; it’s the least we can expect. – Yours, etc,

TONY BUCKLEY,

Benson Crescent,

Beaverstown Orchard,

Donabate,

Co Dublin.
