Madam, - The proposal by our local priests, supported by the Church, offers a solution to the Corrib conflict. We support that, and so does the great majority of our community. There is now a real and viable solution on the table.
Shell is now faced with the moment of truth. It can end the conflict, gain community consent and deliver the Corrib gas project. What is the company afraid of? Why is newly-appointed deputy managing director Terry Nolan hysterically suggesting that those in favour of moving the refinery - from Bishop Fleming to Michael Ring TD - are challenging "the very basis of our democratic system"?
We want to be given the opportunity and space to reunite and heal our community. We ask Shell to stop its efforts to frustrate and destroy this process, encouraging division, using its calculating PR and compliant media sources to plant stories and opinions, and attempting to damage our community. The solution is there. Only Shell is in the way. - Yours, etc,
MARY CORDUFF, WILLIE CORDUFF, PHILIP McGRATH, VINCENT McGRATH, P.J. MORAN, PAT O'DONNELL, CAITLÍN UÍ SEIGHIN, Rossport, Co Mayo.
