Sir, - Mr D. K. Henderson says in his letter (March 18th) that, having passed an advanced driving test, he was not accorded any concession in his premium. He says: ". . . our policy structures are not geared to take this into account." This is not my experience.
When I advised my own motor insurance company that I had been elected a member of the 1AM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) I was instantly granted a significant reduction in premium. Perhaps Mr Henderson should consider changing his insurance company?
May I take this opportunity of expressing my support for Councillor Cait Keane's appeal to this Government to ban the use of mobile phones while people are driving, as reported in The Irish Times of March 6th? On two occasions I have been almost struck by cars whose drivers were concentrating more on their phone conversation than on their driving. Generally speaking, nobody can drive safely while having a phone conversation, although a few exceptions might be considered such as medical people, or members of security forces. - Yours, etc.,
Templeville Road,
Dublin 6W.
