Compliments of the season

Madam, - It is wonderfully heart-warming to hear people wish each other a "merry Christmas".

Madam, - It is wonderfully heart-warming to hear people wish each other a "merry Christmas".

How laden the tiding is with genuine good wishes. How wonderful to hear it from bank tellers, shop assistants, hairdressers, work colleagues, neighbours, friends and foes. Merry Christmas! - Yours, etc.,

SARA SPENCER, Lennox Street, Portobello, Dublin 8.

Madam, - Vincent Browne, no less, informs us that "Charlie McCreevy is an amiable blatherer" (Opinion, December 22nd). Well, at least Mr McCreevy is amiable. - Yours, etc.,

A chara, - Kevin Myers bemoans the Groundhog-Day nature of the peace process (An Irishman's Diary, December 16th).

I can most certainly relate to this as any time I read one of his pieces about Irish nationalism it is Groundhog Day for me. - Is mise, etc.,

Madam, - Six weeks ago a large pot-hole appeared on the mountain road from Muff to Buncrana. A few weeks later Donegal County Council placed a red-and-white cone in it to highlight its position.

As of now no attempt has been made to fill it in. Perhaps it is now time to fit it out with a set of fairy lights for the duration of the festive season? With Christmas and New Year holidays looming it could be well into January before the job is completed. Happy Christmas to Donegal County Council roads department. - Yours, etc.,

COLM McGLYNN, Carnamoyle, Muff, Co Donegal.
