Sir, - The Tβnaiste has said she would "review the policy on issuing work visas to immigrant workers if the number of people signing on the Live Register increased significantly" (The Irish Times, August 9).
This is the sort of careless statement which gives fodder to ┴ine N∅ Chonaill and her ilk. Is the Tβnaiste holding immigrant workers directly responsible for the closure of Gateway? I don't think she is, but you can be sure that this is what some people will understand from this inflammatory remark.
