Madam, - With the retirement of Mr Albert Kelly of the Classic Cinema in Rathmines (The Irish Times, August 23rd), Dublin is losing not only a lover of the film business but a true gentleman with old-fashioned, decent business values.
When the Women's Aid refuge in Rathmines opened in the 1980s he extended an open invitation to the residents to attend what was then a struggling local cinema free whenever they wished by simply phoning in advance. The only caveat was a requirement for prior bookings for large groups of children at the weekends.
He is a kind man and I have no doubt that he will meet with kindness in his retirement.
