Sir, - I write to express my disgust at Premier Dairies Decision to stop producing milk in bottles. I cannot believe that such a retrograde step ins being taken at a time when the Department of the Environment and other environment-concerned groups are preaching the need to re-cycle. Our landfill sites are under enormous pressure.
This profit-based decision will mean that every week my household alone will product 20-25 waste milk cartons for Ballyogan dump.Manufacturers of consumer goods must review the way their products are packaged with a view to reducing the amount of resulting waste. If they will not do this voluntarily they must be forced to do so.
