Madam, – As a lifelong Bob Dylan fan and having seen him live for the 15th time last week, I think Fintan O’Toole’s article (Weekend Review, May 9th) was the best and most incisive insight into Dylan and his work that I have read.
His analogy with listening to Yeats on his deathbed reciting some of his own poetry and hearing Dylan’s performance of his songs “as if from their deathbed” is brilliant.
To quote Dylan, “the only thing that I knew how to do was to keep on keeping on” and “he not busy being born is busy dying”. Long may he keep on keeping on. – Yours, etc,
