Sir, - The street-market in Jerusalem littered with shattered bodies, bloodied like the carcases of animals in a slaughter-house. The body of a teenager dumped in a water-hole in Co Down, so brutally beaten and battered his parents could not be permitted to see him.
Savage, shameful atrocities such as these are so against nature and the norms of decent, human behaviour that they diminish all of us. Here we are, in the dying years of this millennium, no nearer to listening to the message of Christ: "Love thy neighbour."
Has the world gone raving mad, or when, in the name of Christ, will sanity prevail, before we destroy ourselves? - Yours, etc.,
