Madam, – I find it interesting that in the reportage of yet another attack on Mary Robinson from right-wing US sources, the The Irish Timeshas chosen not to refer to her own belief that she was forced out of her previous position as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights by the United States administration of the time. This was linked to her criticism of the US over neglect for human rights during the so-called "war on terror" and was mentioned neither in the reports of her recent award, or the subsequent criticism by pro-Israel groups.

An example perhaps of the subtle self-censorship that mainstream media everywhere continually denies. What a pity that the “paper of record” of her home nation seems unable to report fully on the affairs of an Irish politician who has consistently shown an integrity sadly lacking in both her national and international counterparts.
