Sir, - Clogheen is a strange location to choose for accommodating "refugees". The Vee is the finest scenic location in the south-east of Ireland and Clogheen village, at its foot, has tourism potential. The village has but one small hotel, but those staying there benefit the area generally. Now, coming up to the high season the tourists will have no hotel to stay in. The people of Clogheen are expected to take on "refugees" in place of developing the tourism potential of their small village.
Down the road from Clogheen is Kilworth barracks. It is good enough for Irish soldiers and their families to stay in. Would it not also be good enough for our non-paying visitors, thus allowing Clogheen to develop its tourism potential? - Yours, etc., Joss Fitzsimons
