Sir, – It seems the citizens of the State have decided to give the Government and the rest of the Yes camp one last chance to stand up for Ireland on the European stage.

If they manage to improve Ireland’s lot both domestically and abroad, they will finally be seen to be delivering on well-aged promises. If not, they will be consigned to history at the next election and we will see a rise of the free radicals on both sides of the political spectrum.

Sir, – Yes, Europe has been good for Ireland. Unfortunately, Ireland, as personified by the likes of Anglo Irish Bank, many politicians and the Dublin Docklands Development Authority et al, has been disastrous for Ireland. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Catherine Power (May 31st) is irate at the fact that many of those working in her local polling booth were already in employment or retired. An interesting take on the situation.

However, over several years I have contributed innumerable hours in voluntary work. Yet in all those years nobody has ever once suggested that I should stand aside from my voluntary work and give others the opportunity to contribute. They seem to get irritated only when I’m being paid. Strange that! – Yours, etc,
