Sir, – Wouldn’t it be fitting, when we are rightly celebrating the inauguration of our wonderful new president, Michael D Higgins on Friday, the 11th of the 11th, ’11, if we paused at some stage for a moment’s silence to remember the tens of thousands of Irish men who died in the Great War, as this will be the 93rd anniversary of Armistice Day, and the day chosen in every other country who participated as Remembrance Day.
Incidentally, at 11 minutes past 11am on Friday it will be 11, 11, 11, 11, ’11. – Yours, etc,
