A side view of taxation

Sir, – Yet another new phrase appears in The Irish Times to add to our economic vocabulary. You report ("Receipts ahead of expectations but spending up", August 6th) that corporation tax was "already €800 million above profile" at the end of June" and that income tax was €21 million "above profile" to the end of July.

What happened to plain old “above target”? I think we should be told – in plain English. – Yours, etc,
