Sir, – I am sure I am neither the first nor last to suggest that the new Liffey bridge be named after the late Maeve Binchy RIP. From The Lilac Bus to Tara Road her words took us on a journey that was filled with every aspect of human life and emotion, underlined with honesty. Her stories are “peoplelit” in the truest sense and as evidenced by the many tributes, her talent was only matched by her good nature and wish for all to do well.

Therefore, I wish to put my name to the suggestion that the new Liffey bridge be named The Binchy Bridge (or a derivative thereof) to acknowledge a national treasure the likes of which we will never see again. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – We have lost our beloved Maeve, but she will live on through her wonderful books. I would like to suggest the name for the new Liffey bridge to be known as the Binchy bridge, as she crossed that great divide many times through her writing. May she rest in peace. – Yours, etc,
